3D & the Internet
Power to the People

Introduction

The internet has evolved over the years to become a massive library of files that ranges from everything from Golf to 3D. The internet is a great place to find 3D models and textures. This tutorial will demonstrate how to download models off the net and use them in Studio.

This tutorial requires:

Pixels3D | studio | v3.0 or greater

Connection to the Internet

Find a site, download a file…

There are so many web sites out there that provides free 3D models. You can simply do a search in Sherlock or your favorite search engine. For this tutorial I picked a web site that offers free 3D models of famous buildings. <http://www.greatbuildings.com/types/models/models.html>. The models onn this site are in 3DMF format.

For this tutorial we will be using a model of the "Brooklyn Bridge". Simply download this model. Below is a screenshot of the model inside the QuickDraw3D Viewer

.

Getting the Model into Studio

Now that you have the model you probably want to import it in to Studio. This is an easy task. Simpy choose the import sub-menu which is located in the file menu, and from that menu choose "3DMF." You will be prompted to choose the file. Studio will then parse the file and display it like any other model. Below is a sample render of the "Brooklyn Bridge."

Closing Notes

Now you are armed with the knowledge of how to find and import 3D models from the internet into Studio. The internet is a great way to find 3D information, and it isn't limited to 3D models. You can also find textures. Below are some 3D web sites you should check out.
